Our Organizational Model:
The Hayward Day Labor Center (HDLC) uses a Comprehensive Organization model to meet the varied needs of local residents, merchants, and workers.  This model provides a relatively balanced blend of activities, combining services across all three of the models described below:

a)  A Hiring Hall addresses job/employment issues such as increasing job opportunities, systemic distribution of jobs, and increasing job skills.

b)  A Social Services Agency is designed to meet basic human needs such as food, shelter, transportation, medical services, and social/psychological/spiritual well-being.

c)  A Grassroots Organizing Group focusing on outreach to the workers and community, education, organizing and leadership skills building, and various forms of advocacy.

The HDLC implements its programs based on decisions made by the workers.  We use an organizing model to identify leaders among the workers who then become the "Coordinadores" who help run our various programs.  We develop the workers’ leadership skills by involving them in every aspect of running the HDLC and its programs.
